This year's Billboard Latin Music Awards will take place on a new date and location due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, according to a report by Billboard itself.
The Latino show was initially scheduled for April in Las Vegas, Nevada, but was deferred to a new date because of the threat the coronavirus brings to the event goers. The announcement was made by Billboard and Telemundo, saying that the 2020 installment of the awards show will now happen on Oct. 21 at precisely 8 P.M., following Eastern Standard Time. Moreover, the new date will take place in Sunrise, Florida's BB&T Center.
The extravagant set of the Billboard Latin Music Awards bottled up five special stages to pave the way for several live performances. The upcoming awards show is slated to feature digital concert experiences to Latino fans worldwide with its live-action. Additionally, the Latino event will showcase the country's finest artists and pay tribute to this year's nominated groups and soloists.
Among the distinguished awards show's finalists are COVID-19 survivor J Balvin, Ozuna, Bad Bunny, Karol G, Daddy Yankee, etc. Likewise, this year is Billboard's Latin Music Week marks its three-decade anniversary, which will be given prominence on the live stream. The said live stream will allow the fans to listen to an in-depth conversation with renowned artists like Black Eyed Peas, Los Tigres del Norte, Carlos Vives, Maluma, Rosalia, and many more.
With all the changes made for the forthcoming awards night, the finalists' original list remains the same. Ozuna and Bad Bunny are the massive gainers, having 14 nominations each. J Balvin and Daddy Yankee respectively follow with 12 nominations. The complete roster of finalists is listed here.
Telemundo's Executive Vice President for Entertainment Ronald Day said in a statement that, "Music continues to be a uniting force that transcends all boundaries to bring audiences together and provide much-needed entertainment for the entire family." He then added that this year's awards show would be more thrilling as it sets to be a "one-of-a-kind" event full of Latin music and stars.
The Billboard Latin Music Awards is the only award-giving body to honor and award the most known album, performers, and songs in the Latin music scene. Its streaming figures determine the nominations and winners, actual sales, social data, radio airplay, starting from Feb. 2, 2019, to Jan. 23, 2020.
