Prince Charles's younger years have never been easy, as the second-in-line to the throne of the British Monarchy, his public life was so straight and so careful. He was born into royalty and at a young age has already carried the burden of becoming the next ruler of the UK and its commonwealth countries.

But one of the most interesting parts of Prince Charles’ life was his marriage and affair. How he had the perfect wife but wanted the plain housewife he had been involved for many years.

Camilla Parker Bowles has been in a sordid affair with Prince Charles since their younger years. Before the Prince of Wales was married to Princess Diana, Charles had a very soft spot for Camilla.

On the other hand, Camilla was very much smitten with an army man, Andrew Parker Bowles. Her relationship with Prince Charles was on and off for many years.

Now, Camilla and Prince Charles are already married. 15 long years, the two have been together but there have been many obstacles.

Many people believe that Prince Charles’ life long affair with Camilla was the cause of his deteriorating marriage with Princess Diana and Diana’s subsequent death.

Anthony Holden, a royal commentator said, “The collapse of the Wales marriage - strenuously denied throughout the several years it has so visibly been happening – all comes down to this unlikely femme fatale, a rather plain, 45-year-old country housewife, married to a career army officer.” 

Camilla’s ex-husband, Andrew Parker Bowles was said to have been mocked by many of Camilla’s friends, and brutally at that. Andrew, who is a passive and forgiving man was mocked by being called the name ‘Ernest’.

The history behind this goes all the way to Edward VII and Wallis Simpson. The abdicated King married Wallis Simpson, a twice divorcee whose last husband was named Ernest Simpson.

Camilla’s friend disdainfully would call Andrew ‘Ernest’, as he was so kind enough to let Camilla continue her affair with Prince Charles during their marriage, which eerily mirrors Ernest allowing Wallis to have an affair with Edward VII.

According to many sources, Camilla and Andrew are in a very good relationship despite the two having been divorced. They were said to have exchanged multiple letters after there divorce.

As for Prince Charles’ and Andrew’s relationship, they are said to be respectful of each other, after all, Prince Charles will be the next King.
