Rapper Ice-T teamed up with netizens who are taking jabs at Donald Trump’s former adviser, Steve Bannon on social media. The former White House Chief Strategist has been charged in connection with a virtual fundraising campaign that garnered hundreds of thousands of dollars by allegedly cheating donors.
“Another one…. Dude has more friends in Jail than ME!” wrote in the comments section of a Billy Baldwin tweet about Bannon. The 66-year-old former Trump aide was on a $28 million yacht of a Chinese billionaire at the time of his arrest citing fraud charges on Thursday in the Long Island Sound near Westbrook, according to New York Post.
He then pleaded not guilty in federal court in Manhattan after being accused along with three others who are also indicted with defrauding donors in the virtual fundraising campaign dubbed "We Build the Wall" that managed to raise a whopping $25 million. After being released on a $5 million bond, Bannon took to the radio to promote his innocence, touting his arrest as a "political hit job."
During an episode of his show, War Room, he noted that he loves a fight, recalling that he was referred to as "Honey Badger" for several years. He went on to point out that a honey badger doesn't give and said he was in for the long haul, and he is in for the fight.
Bannon joined a list of former Trump aides that have been accused of being involved in some sort of crimes. A major portion of those charges is connected to the Robert Mueller investigation into Russian election interference in 2016.
Trump didn't waste time in distancing himself from his former senior adviser after a federal grand jury in New York accused him of money laundering, as well as wire fraud. The POTUS went as far as criticizing the group We Build the Wall that Bannon was a part of in a bid to confirm that he is not associated with him anymore.
The president accused the group of interfering in a government-run project to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. Among a slew of other allegations, Bannon was accused of transferring $1 million raised by the We Build the Wall group to another organization that was under his control.
He supported Trump's statement about building the wall being a government function, noting that the president has had a lot of trouble making that wall. Bannon’s remarks were originally reported by Right Wing Watch.
