Since her nomination as Joe Biden’s running mate, Kamala Harris has spurred a wave of interest among political experts who want to understand what she is really capable of giving to the office. After a few weeks since the news emerged, it seems Kamala is mostly receiving favorable remarks.
The selection of Kamala to be the candidate for the vice presidency was a masterstroke from Dems. In the light of ongoing events marked with calls of justice for marginalized sections of the society, Kamala, who has mixed roots of origin, was, in all likelihood, the best decision Dems could make. Just as Dems expected, in no time – the 55-year old has collected a great deal of voter’s attention and support.
Just like many in the country, Indian-American Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal said that nomination of Kamala Harris as Democratic party’s vice presidential candidate is a very important step towards a better future.
According to Jayapal, Kamala, who represents multiple identities, will be effective in bringing marginalized communities’ interests and issues to light so that they can be addressed effectively.
Jayapal also said that she confides in Kamala that she would construct and bring up policies that will benefit all regardless of their racial identity, gender, or place of origin.
In an interview with CNN, Jayapal explained why Kamala is the perfect nomination at this point in time. The 54-year old congresswoman said, “it is not only because she brings multiple identities but is a flashpoint for communities around the country that have not felt themselves heard in a way the way that we would like, not felt themselves seen, and she touched on that at many moments and she also touched on the history of those whose shoulders we stand upon.”
Jayapal is the first Indian-American to be elected to the lower house in the country, entering the US House of Representatives in the year 2017. Both the ladies, Jaypal and Kamala have been friends for a very long time, trace their roots back to Chennai, and have worked together on multiple important issues for the country in regard to immigrants, human rights, and women.
Besides Kamala, Biden has also observed a surge in the productivity of his appeal. Post-Biden’s DNC address, the odds have significantly moved towards Dems as they continue to see the rise in support from influential personalities and Hollywood celebrities.
The election campaigns that were going flat have steepened after DNC, however, there is still some time - therefore both the parties are going to be involved in upholding what they have created.
