The authors of Finding Freedom recently revealed why they think a lot of people came forward to defend Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

While speaking with Juliet Rieden for The Australian Women’s Weekly, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand explained that a lot of people wanted to come forward for the Sussexes. However, no one wanted their identities to be exposed.

“We wanted to get everyone’s voices in the book because there were a lot of friends on their side talking who have been frustrated by what they’ve read in the press. I think in a way the book became a safe place and for some of those people to speak for the first time,” Scobie said.

Scobie also said that the people who’ve come forward don’t want to be dragged into the chaos and noise that exists in the couple’s lives.

“It’s not new for Harry and Meghan, whereas for a mother of young children who just happens to know Meghan, it can be quite unnecessary and unwelcome to suddenly have the press dragging her into it. Once those names are out there 30 other media organizations are going to be trying to talk to them. Also, people are more comfortable when they can speak in anonymity,” he explained.

During the interview, it was revealed that Durand was the one who came up with the idea of writing a book about Prince Harry. The author was inspired after seeing the Duke of Sussex at the Invictus Games 2016.

“I was struck in a way that I never had been before about who Harry was: that despite his birthright, everything that he’d done to carry on his family’s legacy and his mother’s legacy, the commitment that he had to do something with his position, to help all sorts of people around the world and to see these people, men and women, some of them multiple amputees, lifting themselves up on to swimming blocks and having a sense of purpose… that was when I knew I was ready to write a book about Prince Harry,” she said.

Finding Freedom became such a huge success because it already became a bestseller before its official release date. However, the book, which Prince Harry and Markle weren’t interviewed for, also received criticisms.

Some royal experts are convinced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared their insights with the author. However, Scobie insisted that this wasn’t the case.

He and Durand were already working on the book when Markle first joined the royal family. And the direction that they were going to take changed after Archie was born.
