Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary on Sunday.
But instead of posting touching tributes about each other on social media, DeGeneres received more criticisms. One of her former contestants in the Make It Rain segment lambasted the comedian.
During her interview with The Sun, Dana Dimatteo revealed what is was really like to meet DeGeneres and be on Ellen Show. She said that DeGeneres changed immediately once the cameras stopped rolling.
“During commercial breaks, Ellen would break out of her 'kind' character and sit moodily in silence on her couch, not acknowledging anyone. She didn’t say one word to the audience unless the cameras were on, she snapped out of her character the second the cameras stopped rolling,” she said.
Dimatteo admitted that she and her friend used to love Ellen Show. As such, they waited so long to score tickets. The contestant and her friend flew from Chicago to Los Angeles just to meet DeGeneres. However, her experience on the show wasn’t positive at all.
“We were told by the producers that if we were picked we were not allowed to be funnier or smarter than Ellen, that she is the star and the comedian, not us. We were told to act in a very specific way and to only speak if she asked us a question. They made us scream and jump around backstage as a test, it was pretty humiliating,” she said.
Following the segment, Dimatteo and the other contestants waited backstage. And even though they were soaking wet, no one offered them towels. And the producers just left them there.
“I didn’t enjoy myself on the show. You have to follow all these rules, you can’t be yourself, you have to clap constantly and laugh at things that aren't funny,” she said.
Perez Hilton also slammed DeGeneres during her interview on Podcast One Australia’s The Briefing. The celebrity blogger questioned the comedian’s apology and said that it seemed as though she was blaming everyone but herself.
“'She needs to take accountability, which I don't know if she's done very well yet. She did an excellent job of placing the blame on others! From multiple reports, she was in the room a lot of times when this one executive producer was screaming at people. I don't know about you, but I don't think that screaming at somebody at a place of work is professional and it shouldn't be tolerated,” he said.
DeGeneres hasn’t responded to the recent criticisms.
