Miley Cyrus marks her return with a brand new track, Midnight Sky. The single was released along with the music video on Aug. 13 at night. The song has been directed by the 27-year-old actress-singer.
The visuals of the music video have featured Cyrus with mullet along with numerous outfits that make the music video an atmosphere of the 80s. Cyrus revealed in a press release that the inspiration for this track was drawn from female icons in the music industry.
She mentioned stars who motivated her such as Debbie Harry, Joan Jett, and Stevie Nicks. She revealed that these stars have not only been a great inspiration but also amazing allies and generous towards her.
The star has teased the song earlier this month on Instagram and acknowledged that fans must be anticipating her track for a long time. However, she said that the wait is finally over. This is the first time the trio of Lana Del Rey, Cyrus, and Ariana Grande came together after collaborating in Sept. 2019 for Don't Call Me Angel. Although Cyrus had launched a single in August in 2019, Slide Away.
The latest video was released on the day when an insider of Cyrus announced that she and Cody Simpson have split. However, the reason behind the couple's breakup is still not revealed. The couple has been dating since Oct. 2019 since Simpson broke up with his girlfriend Kaitlynn Carter.
Cyrus called a split with Liam Hemsworth last August and finalized the divorce in January. However, a close source to the singer disclosed that there are big plans on the professional front for the star. The source further revealed that the star is extremely excited to work on her latest album and thrilled to share tracks with her fans that are influenced by her personal life.
In an interview with New Music Daily, Cyrus spoke about how she created the Midnight Sky. The singer said that the entire decade was revealed in this music video and the experience she had gone through in a much poetic way.
“I felt like my story and my narrative had kind of been told for me over the past year. Obviously, I went through an extremely public breakup and, even more than that, a divorce, and with someone that I had been with for ten years,” the Hannah Montana fame explained. She also gave credit to her creative partner, Andrew Watt.
