Recently, Grey's Anatomy star Caterina Scorsone gave birth to her third child. Since the actress has just given birth, she might be gone for a while in Grey's Anatomy season 16. But, fans shouldn't be worried as she's not going to be gone for long.
In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Krista Vernoff said Scorsone decided not to take too much off even after welcoming a new baby. That only means the actress will be back in Grey's Anatomy season 16 as soon as possible. Similarly, her character, Amelia, takes on a pregnancy storyline.
Vernoff said Scorsone didn't want to have a long maternity leave. She noted the actress will likely be gone for only one episode, so Amelia's absence may not be felt at all. One of the reasons why this is possible is because the series' stars aren't forced to deal with a heavy workload.
Grey's Anatomy is also accommodating with some of their schedules and cast. The series gives actors a chance to jump into the spotlight and also allows them to take some break when needed. For instance, Jesse Williams will continue being part of the show, despite his Broadway gig.
Meanwhile, the father of Amelia's baby has been one of the most intriguing parts in Grey's Anatomy season 16. In the midseason finale, she found out the baby might not be Link's, and the unborn child could be Owen's. Eventually, Amelia told Link there's a possibility the baby might not be his.
Amelia said she doesn't want a paternity test and "genetics don't matter". Link seems to be fine with it, but after a conversation with his friend Jo Wilson, he changed his mind. He told Amelia that a lot of people are involved and they deserve to know the truth.
Fans, however, weren't happy there's a possibility Link isn't the father. One fan wrote on Reddit that the potential good storyline has been ruined because of "cheap twists." Another fan wrote the series ruined Amelia's storyline by making her ex as the possible father of the baby.
But, Amelia, Link, and Owen's storyline isn't the only thing that comes with a twist. Previously, it was revealed Justin Chambers' Alex Karev is leaving for good. What's surprising is that his last episode aired last year, and was only announced recently. So, it's unlikely Karev will be making another appearance in the series.
Grey's Anatomy season 16 airs every Thursday on ABC.
