Prince Andrew hasn’t been formally charged in Jeffrey Epstein’s case. But even if he is proven to be innocent, it is unlikely for him to recover from the controversy.
While speaking with Woman UK, royal author Nigel Cawthorne shared his thoughts on the Duke of York. He said that Prince Andrew will have a hard time if he decides to return to his royal duties in the near future.
“Whatever happens, it is hard to see how he comes out of all this unscathed. His father suffered from, what he himself called foot-in-mouth disease. But Andrew is a different kettle of fish. He has the unfortunate habit of shooting himself in the foot,” he said.
Cawthorne said that everything that Prince Andrew will do and say if she returns to the royal frontline will be vetted.
“But, in truth, it’s hard to see how he could reinvent himself as an industrious royal like Princess Anne, and he would have done so by now,” he said.
The royal author said that Prince Andrew doesn’t have anything to worry about because he’s still innocent until proven otherwise. This means that he shouldn’t also about Ghislaine Maxwell’s arrest.
However, if Maxwell decides to take a plea deal, this will be seen as a major development. And this is when the Duke of York should become concerned.
Cawthorne couldn’t also help but wonder why Prince Andrew hasn’t spoken with the FBI when he has vehemently denied any wrongdoing.
“It’s not yet clear whether the British government has accepted the US’ requests for assistance. But if they have, the British police may seek formal contact with the prince and may ask for documents or property to be handed over. The prince could even be asked to give evidence before a high-court judge. The US is becoming impatient and wants to hear from the prince,” he said.
Cawthorne said that at the end of the day, Epstein’s victims will only get partial justice regardless of what happens in court. After all, Epstein is no longer around. And those who were part of his sex ring are the only ones trying their best to clear their names.
