The upcoming VMAs will mark as the first show to go live since the travel restrictions and cancellation of significant events in the country caused by the COVID-19 global pandemic.
In a Billboard report, the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards is the first performance of BTS and Doja Cat, while J Balvin will spend his second time in the extravagant stage. The Latin singer performed his ‘Qué Pretendes’ song last year in collaboration with Puerto Rican Singer, Benito Antonio Martinez Occasion, commonly known as Bad Bunny.
For the time being, the host of the upcoming awards show is unknown and as well as the presenters, which will be announced in the latter. VMAs will also give prominence to a new category to be presented in the nearing event. The ‘Best in Quarantine Performance’ will be handed over to the artist who shows extreme versatility in performing at home.
Bangtan Boys, a.k.a. BTS
The South Korean septet will perform its newest English track called ‘Dynamite,’ which is due to drop on August 21. The ‘IDOL’ singers and rappers will cross swords with fellow K-pop and well-known artists in four separate VMAs categories.
Adding up to their hit song ‘Boy With Luv’ nomination for the ‘Best K-pop’ category last year, the band hails their ‘Map of The Soul: 7’ ‘ON’ track for this year’s event. The idols are listed as ‘Best Pop Video,’ ‘Best K-pop Group,’ and ‘Best Choreography’ nominees.
J Balvin
The 35-year-old “Prince of Reggaeton” is the performance every Latino wishes for. Balvin carries a total of four nominations, which includes three entries for the ‘Best Latin’ category. The singer won the said category for the past two years for ‘Mi Gente’ in 2018 and ‘Con Altura’ in 2019.
Doja Cat
The ‘Like That’ rapper bagged three nominations at the VMAs, bottling up with her ‘Say So’ track and a ‘PUSH Best New Artist’ nomination. Rapper Roddy Ricch joins Cat for the said category.
BTS, J Balvin, and Doja Cat are, for now, the confirmed performers of the upcoming awards show.
