Taylor Swift released an album called Folklore last week and it successfully made its way to the Billboard 200's No. 1 position. The music album turned out to be the biggest opener since Swift’s previous album released in 2019, Lover.
Swift announced the release of Folkore with a short notice, which earned her No. 1 album holder for the seventh time. As per Nielsen Music/MRC Data, the latest music album earned 846,000 units in the United States by the end of the weekend.
Swift broke her own record as the newly released album marked the biggest week. Previously, the 30-year-old singer made a record with 867,000 units that top the chart in 2019. Moreover, Swift has bagged the biggest weeks in the last four years. Since 2016, Reputation marked 1.24 million units, Lover marked 867,000 units, and Folklore is at 846,000 units.
There are various multi-metric calculations that help to measure the music album units, which is followed by the Billboard 200 list in the United States. The unit count is based on streaming equivalent albums (SEA), track equivalent albums (TEA), and of course, the sales of the album.
One unit is counted as one album sold to the user. Given that, it can also be counted based on 1,250 paid subscription, 10 single tracks purchased from the music album, and 3,750 advertisement support. Folklore entered the chart list with 615,000 album sales, 846,000 units counted, SEA was 218,000 united which is equivalent to 289.85 million tracks demanded on the album.
Besides Swift marked the No. 1 position, she also tied with Janet Jackson that made her leading lady in the history of music album Billboard charts. Swift made her way with legendary singers such as Madonna who has nine No. 1s while Barbra Streisand earned 11 times No. 1 position on the chart.
However, The Beatles remain at the top even in this list as they have 19 No. 1s. While Folklore helped Swift to gain the position the seventh time, previous she had earned the top spot with Lover, Reputation, 1989, Red, Speak Now, and Fearless.
Gaining the No. 1 position as the album debut is known to be a "record" for the female singers. Madonna, Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga are few of those women who follow the second-most No. 1 debutant albums in the chart.
After Folklore, there is No Pressure released by Logic that earned 221,000 units. The Kid LAROI also debuted for the first time on the top 10 list. The 16-year-old rapper lands at No. 8 on the list.
