Co-creators Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones have done an extraordinary with the sci-fi series Black Mirror.
Their work is so good that anybody in a conscious state of mind could easily see a great investment opportunity in their ventures. Netflix spotted the opportunity! The streaming platform has struck a deal with Black Mirror creators, making an investment in their new production company Broke and Bones.
Brooker and Jones’ Black Mirror holds the IMDB rating of 8.8 which is highly unprecedented and equal to that of Stranger Things’.
In addition to incredible ratings, the series has delivered a tremendous performance in terms of critical and commercial success. Black Mirror has won five Emmys, a Royal Television Society U.K. Award, a BAFTA, and a string of similar others.
The plot of the show has been stitched by Brooker who is the writer and creator, on the other hand, Jones is the co-producer-cum-creator. The series has run for five seasons and the sixth season is around the corner.
The deal is worth multiple years, however, the price hasn’t been disclosed yet. According to the reports, by the end of the term, the streamer will be eligible to buy the 100% stake in the company. However, in line with previous agreements, Broke and Bones will have to frame out a new agreement with Netflix in order to produce the next seasons under the banner of the latter.
The staffing has already been with Jo Kay and Holly Sait appointed as the head of the production under different categories. With the kind of staffing, one thing is certain that Broke and Bones’ spectrum of production will be wide as both Kay and Sait have an enormous amount of experience in the production of sci-fi, comedy, and drama.
It is possible that we got the news a little late because the companies have already set the ball rolling on their first project after the deal - a new series is in the works with Broke and Bone at Netflix.
The creators have got plenty of experience hammering out remarkably engaging series, some of the shows they have created include – the detective spoof series A Touch of Cloth and Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Wipe.
Over recent years, Netflix has taken the lead. In the 2020 Emmys, Netflix has shattered all the previous records with mind-boggling 160 primetime nominations leaving behind HBO at 107 nominations. Considering the work Broke and Bone creators have done before, their collaboration with Netflix may brew out an interesting set of shows.
