The popular documentary series ('Last Chance U: Laney') from the house of Netflix is set to making its return. The series is one of a kind when it comes to sports coverage – displaying the essence of junior college football in an inclusive manner - all from the practice sessions to victorious performances. However, the alleged final season this time is all brand new because the show will have a wholly new setting, a new college, and a new kind of coach in the form of John Beam.
Producer-director Greg Whitley has decided to leave behind the small town that has been used for the first four years. The show is making a move from coach Jason Brown whose performance was hailed as top-class to Laney's John Beam. So, there is an inevitable change in the coaching philosophy which will remain the center of attraction – while Brown was more of a performance-oriented coach, John Beam focuses on the practice of players.
For the fifth season, the show will give the ‘raw behind-the-scenes look’ at the struggle and grind of Laney College players. So, the essence of the show will exactly be the same as previous seasons even though a lot of things won’t be.
Whiteley seems psyched up to move on from the old setup to the fresh one. About moving to Laney College, Greg Whiteley “We're thrilled to be able to delve into the world of Laney College for our fifth season and to have had the opportunity to document the incredible grit and drive of these JUCO players in Oakland”
The move to Laney students means more realistic adventure – according to reports, the episodes are ‘tightly edited’ to present an intense top-class sports experience for fans. The show will be filmed in Oakland, California focusing on the Laney Eagles’ relentless practice to retain their championship title.
Netflix has decided to air all of the episodes in one go on Tuesday, July 28 – 3 a.m. ET/midnight PT. The show won’t be any different in terms of the length of the series – like previous seasons, it’ll be an eight-episode series.
As mentioned earlier, Last Chance U Laney is allegedly the last season of the series. However, Netflix has already green-lit the Last Chance U spin-off titled Last Chance U: Basketball focusing on East Los Angeles Community College basketball team.
So, in case, the reports of the series going off-air come true, we will still have something similar in nature to look forward to. However, it would be wrong to expect it to happen before the spring of the next year.
