With 1980's music icon Tina Turner on her own home enjoying retirement season, Norwegian DJ-singer Kygo reimagined her 1984 cosmic hit What's Love Got To Do With It.
Per Rolling Stone, the new dance-pop version of the song comes with an all-new visual that best fits today's thing.
In a statement by the 28-year-old DJ, he expresses his excitement towards the collaboration, considering he is teaming up with Tina Turner, a music icon that he grew up listening to her songs. Also, Kygo revealed that What's Love Got To Do With It is in his all-time favorite song list. "to have a chance to rework, it has been a very special moment in my career," he added.
Additionally, Kygo said that he is very passionate about running around classic vocals despite the great challenge of preserving the original version's music element. "I'm extremely happy with how it turned out!" he added.
According to Billboard, Turner initially rejected to record What's Love Got To Do With It when it was first offered. Turner didn't like the track's arrangement and only recorded it after her manager convinces her to do so. In 1984, the same year the song was recorded and released, What's Love Got To Do With It stormed the different airplay charts across the globe. To date, the said song remains to be Turner's only solo song to be listed in the no. 1 spot on the U.S. Hot 100 chart.
The remix version of the song stretches the song's popularity, proving What's Love Got To Do With It is indisputable.
The intro part of the song tags along with Kygo's mild beats, then followed by the jazz-like drum tempo that goes along Turner's powerful vocals.
The remixed version of What's Love Got To Do With It is accompanied by a Sarah Bahbah made music video that stars Charles Michael Davis and Laura Harrier. The video plays of two "star-crossed lovers" who struggle in establishing their emotional and physical connection. Watch the music video below.
The new single by Kygo is the third to the list of his 80's remixed collection following his major hit-remix of Whitney Houston's Higher Love in 2019.
Just recently, the Norwegian Dj-producer released his second album entitled Golden Hour. At the moment, the album sits at the no. 1 spot on the Top Dance/Electronic albums chart. Kygo will grace an upcoming performance alongside Ryan Tedder in the iHeartRadio's Summer Camp With the Stars.
