‘Glee’ alumna Naya Rivera, 33, is identified by Ventura County Sheriff’s department as the missing person on a Wednesday afternoon at Lake Piru in Ventura County, California. Per Variety, Wednesday 9:30 P.M. when the sheriff’s department is in further investigation of Rivera’s “possible” drowning incident. A team of divers and police was then sent off to execute the search.
As Eonline reported, referencing from NBC4 L.A. reporter Robert Kovacik reports, the search for the actress began on Wednesday afternoon when Rivera and her four-year-old son, Josey Dorsey, failed to surrender the rented boat they borrowed for three hours. Few hours later, Josey was found sleeping in the boat wearing a life vest including. Report says that Rivera’s life vest is also in the boat when Josey was found.

From a Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Captain Eric Buschow’s statement to LA Times, the said investigators made their way to the scene around 4:40 P.M. with Josey “unharmed”: Rivera’s identity was not immediately known. "He's in good health,” Buschow said then added that Rivera’s family is going through a very distressing time.
Josey, 4, shared few details about the incident to the police officers. According to Rivera’s son, he and his mother went swimming but he eventually found his way to the boat after not seeing his mother. TMZ then reported that Rivera jumped in the lake but was not able to come back.
Rivera’s car was found later that day still parked on the lake’s space.
Helicopters, drones, and divers did all the best to find Rivera but no traces of the actress were found. The search for the 33-year-old singer-actress was called off that night by the Ventura County Sheriffs but will presume on first light, Thursday.
Naya Rivera gained fame for her role as Santana Lopez in the musical Fox produced series Glee. Rivera starred in the series’ 113 episodes and has well-played the character from 2009 to 2015. Since then, the singer-actress landed roles in films such as ‘Step Up: High Water’ and ‘Devious Minds’. Due to Rivera’s unique portrayal of her character in Glee, she earned award nominations from Grammys, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and Teen Choice Awards. In 2011, Rivera released a single entitled ‘Sorry’ under Columbia Records featuring her ex-boyfriend, rapper Big Sean.
As the saddening news made its way to the public, Rivera’s beloved co-stars from Glee expressed their hope and grief over the horrible incident.
Heather Morris, Rivera’s love interest in Glee, took on Instagram to ask for prayers in searching for Rivera. “We need your love and light,” Morris wrote. Shadow Hunter’s Harry Shum Jr., who played as Mike in Glee, tweeted “Praying”.
Rivera is now Glee’s third cast member who faced a tragic incident over the years. In 2013, Cory Monteith died from a drug overdose while Mark Salling passed on 2018 by suicide.
