DiCaprio disclosed that DeNiro used to be extremely focused and serious on the set and sometimes he had to realize that even he is working on the scene to get his eyes off DeNiro. He remembered being a demure teenager as he was a wild child. The Wolf of Wall Street star explained the reason that he got the role because he was ballsy and outspoken.

In a sequence during the audition where DeNiro asked if the mustard jar was empty, DiCaprio went over the board and threw his chair and replied while screaming, “No, it’s not empty!” Probably, that's the reason everyone found him interesting on the set and got him back to play the part of Toby.
