Kacey Musgraves and her husband Ruston Kelly are gearing up to end their marriage, two and a half years after walking down the aisle in Oct. 2017 in Tennessee. Musgraves, 31, and Kelly, also 31, have thrown in the towel, according to their reps.

Kacey Musgraves and Ruston Kelly’s reps released a joint statement, confirming to PEOPLE that the pair have decided to go their separate ways. Their statement was aimed at putting a lid on speculations even before they start, and represented their own thoughts about what was going on.

Noting that they both believe they walked into each other's lives for a divine reason, the statement said they have managed to boundlessly change each other for the better. They said their love for each other isn't limited to the relationship they have shared as husband and wife, noting that it is an inerasable soul connection.

Despite the decision is painful, the statement described it as a healthy one. It says the couple tried their best but it didn't work, however, they said despite parting ways in marriage, they will continue being true friends for the rest of their lives. They clarified that they do not nurse grudge, blame, or hold contempt for each other and asked for privacy and good wishes for them as they learn to navigate through the divorce.

The news was originally reported by The Associated Press. Before the breakup news surfaced online, Musgraves attended the CMA Awards along with Gigi Hadid as her date in Nov. Both Musgraves and Kelly have deleted their wedding pictures from their Instagram accounts.

Musgraves opened up to Glamour about how she was blown away when she heard Kelly sing. Before making this revelation in 2019, she had won album of the year at the Grammy's. The singer-songwriter said Kelly was the inspiration behind her career-changing album dubbed, Golden Hour.

They met back in 2016 at Bluebird Cafe in Nashville while attending a songwriters’ showcase. They connected again to write together and sparks flew. Musgraves pointed out that everything seemed perfect, and she didn't even have to adjust her personality to fit together, which the star says, wasn't something she had before.

Describing that period as a big opening of heart, Musgraves said it proved to be an important factor for her success when it came to writing her new music. Moreover, she started to see the world in a pretty light after meeting Kelly, who allowed her to be herself.
