Angelina Jolie was accused of being a man-stealer amid reports that she and Brad Pitt had an affair while the latter was still with Jennifer Aniston.
After learning about the rumors, Jolie reportedly started a smear campaign to destroy Aniston’s reputation. According to author Ian Halperin, Jolie’s goal was to shift the public’s focus from her being a man-stealer to Aniston allegedly not wanting to become a mom.
In the book Brangelina: The Untold Story, Halperin said that Jolie was behind the rumors that Aniston prioritized her career over wanting to get pregnant while she was with Pitt.
As such, Pitt allegedly called it off with Aniston because she didn’t want to have a baby with him and not because of his affair with Jolie.
However, the Friends actress immediately debunked the allegations during her interview with Vanity Fair. Aniston said that she never expressed her dislike for being a mom. She also said that she never chose her career over becoming pregnant while she was with Pitt.
One of Aniston’s friends also came to her defense by saying that it was Pitt that wasn’t ready to have a child with the actress. And it allegedly felt like a slap in the face when Pitt decided to have kids with Jolie shortly after they started dating.
While speaking with Parade, Pitt seemingly revealed another reason why his marriage to Aniston failed. The dad of six said that his marriage to The Morning Show actress was dull. Pitt also suggested that his life became more exciting after he met Jolie.
Shortly after his interview, Pitt faced backlash for throwing Aniston under the bus. And the Ad Astra issued an apology immediately after. He said that he wasn’t referring to his marriage to Aniston when he said that his life was dull for quite some time.
In his statement, Pitt said that it pains him that his statement was interpreted in a negative way. He also said that Aniston is an incredibly giving, loving, and hilarious human being. And Pitt said that the two of them are still friends even after they divorced.
“It’s an important relationship I value greatly. The point I was trying to make is not that Jen was dull, but that I was becoming dull to myself, and that, I am responsible for,” Pitt explained.
