On June 21, John Bolton made an appearance in an interview, wherein the former national security adviser said that Donald Trump's White House is posing a danger for the republic. The congressional Democrats, on the other hand, were doing everything they could to unseat Trump from the office, Bolton said and described the situation as a partisan catfight.
During an interview with ABC News' Martha Raddatz, Bolton took jabs at the Defense Department, accusing it of obstruction regarding the administration's response to suspicious use of chemical weapons in Syria. This accusation comes just a day after a federal judge described Bolton's decision to make his tell-all memoir on the president's administration available to the public as information that could harm America.
The federal judge said the book exposes Bolton to civil and potentially criminal liability. Aside from that, the judge accused him of jeopardizing national security by revealing classified information and violating his nondisclosure agreement obligations. Bolton told Raddatz that he wasn't able to determine any guiding principle except for what's good for Trump's reelection.
The first thing that Bolton says he encountered on his opening day was the chemical-weapons attack by the Syrian government against its own civilians. Bolton said they were able to respond by the end of the week, adding that the entire process they went through was very disappointing and that he felt there was some sort of hindrance from the Defense Department.
While they expected to receive a myriad of heavy, medium, and light options to choose from, the Defense Department gave them a series of options that belonged to completely different classes. Moreover, there were no restrictions against the use of chemical weapons, Bolton complained.
According to Bolton, Trump was not aware of the implications of what he was doing. To make things worse, the president didn't speak up during intelligence briefings. During an interview on NBC News' "Meet the Press," Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif. said although he hasn't read Bolton's controversy plagued book dubbed, The Room Where It Happened yet, his committee is planning to ask Bolton to testify, adding that Trump could be denounced once again.
With everyone who testified getting a subpoena, Bolton said he was fully prepared for getting a subpoena too. In his opinion, the way the House justifies impeachment proceeded was wrong. Moreover, Bolton deemed it as impeachment malpractice. He also noted that the Democrats in a hurry because they didn't want to ruin the Democratic presidential nomination.
