Baz Luhrmann is looking forward to getting official permission to restart his upcoming movie based on Elvis Presley's production.
Annastacia Palaszczuk, Premier of Queensland said that she met the Australian filmmaker regarding ramping up the production for another blockbuster but keeping the coronavirus pandemic situation in mind and have corona-proof safe plans before the top doctor of the state.
The movie production which was in the filming process on the Gold Coast, got stopped in March after Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks were tested coronavirus positive.
Palaszczuk said that she has been working closely with the director of the movie and his team to ensure that the production is resumed at Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast. In her statement, she mentioned starting the production soon but at the same time wants to ensure that the safety measures are taken for entire cast and crew.
Queensland Health and Screen Queensland are also in process to develop a screen industry coronavirus safe plan that will be available soon, which will pave the way for everyone to roll the cameras again along with crew to operate from sets safely.
The upcoming biopic is expected to explore music and life of Presley, which will showcase not only his rise to the fame but also the impact he created on the world. The film will also explore parts of his life where he delved into a complication relationship with his talent manager named Colonel Tom Parker.
Luhrmann is known for his popular directorial such as The Great Gatsby, Romeo and Juliet, Strictly Ballroom, and Moulin Rouge. The 57-year-old director released a statement in March where he mentioned his passionate conviction to get back on the set located on the Gold Coast and start filming again where they have left when the time is right.
Additionally, Luhrmann disclosed that the set is not taken down and just locked up the creative area for couple of days. Besides that, there will be filming of another production in the Queensland in June. This Little Love of Mine is a rom-com by The Steve Jaggi Company is also expected to start filming in Cairns.
Palaszczuk is expecting these productions to created 25 local employment opportunity and add $1.5 million to the economy. Also, The Bureau of Magical Things second season is expected to build more than 200 jobs for cast and crew with benefit of more than $8.5 million to the economy of Queensland.
