Meghan Markle is reportedly unhappy about Taylor Swift's recent camaraderie with Prince William, years after the pop star declined her podcast invitation. The Prince of Wales, along with his children Prince George and Princess Charlotte, attended Swift's "Eras Tour" concert in London and posed for a viral selfie with the singer. This event, which also coincided with William's 42nd birthday, has stirred conversations among royal commentators.
The meeting was highlighted by a fan-taken video showing Prince William dancing during Swift's performance, further drawing attention to the interaction between the royal family and the pop icon. Sky News Australia host Rita Panahi and royal correspondent Kinsey Schofield suggested that Markle might be particularly irked by this newfound bond.
"If there's one thing that Meghan covets above all else, it's celebrity attention, and the former actress probably isn't going to be happy with Taylor Swift making time for William and his children," Panahi claimed on Sky News Australia. Schofield added, "If you'll recall, Meghan Markle handwrote a note to Taylor Swift asking her to appear on her podcast. And Taylor had her people reach back out to Meghan and decline that invitation."
Markle's invitation to Swift came during the first season of her "Archetypes" podcast on Spotify, which featured interviews with high-profile guests like Mariah Carey, Serena Williams, and Mindy Kaling. Despite the personalized note from Markle, Swift declined the offer through a representative, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
Weeks after the rejection, Markle attended one of Swift's "Eras Tour" shows at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles with a friend and was seen enjoying the concert. This highlighted Markle's admiration for Swift, despite the earlier snub. Schofield noted that Swift and Prince William share a history that predates Markle's involvement.
In 2013, Swift and Prince William performed "Livin' on a Prayer" with Jon Bon Jovi during a charity event at Kensington Palace. This longstanding connection was emphasized by Schofield during an interview with GB News, where she suggested that Swift's public interaction with William and his children indicated her alignment with "Team Wales."
"I think we are seeing our Taylor side with Team Wales here over the last few hours," Schofield claimed. This alliance appears to be another point of contention in the already strained relationship between the Sussexes and the Waleses.
The rift between Prince Harry and Prince William, along with their respective families, has been well-documented since the Sussexes stepped back from royal duties and moved to California in 2020. The relationship further deteriorated after Markle and Harry's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, their Netflix docuseries, and Harry's memoir "Spare."
"Relations between the Sussexes and the Wales remains at an all-time low," royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight earlier this month. "I'm told that William and Harry really are not even on speaking terms."
Swift's refusal to participate in Markle's podcast and her recent bonding with Prince William and his children may have deepened Markle's sense of alienation. As both families navigate their public and private lives, these interactions continue to fuel speculation and commentary from royal watchers and the media.
