Brad Pitt’s alleged girlfriend Alia Shawkat is “embarrassed” and “ashamed” after a video of her surfaced where she used the “N-word” while referring to a Drake song.
Pitt’s good friend Shawkat has issued a heartfelt apology after a Twitter user uploaded a clip of the 31-year-old actress speaking at a panel four years ago when she quoted a Drake lyric. The actress said: “N*** we made it!”
When the actress got to know about the video in question, she wrote a detailed apology on her Instagram account. Shawkat said she was “ashamed” of what she spoke in 2016. The Green Room actress further said that all non-black people should take responsibility for their inactivity.
The actress feels that silence is dangerous, Daily Mail reports. Shawkat seems to have realized that even if a musician uses the “N-word” in his/her song lyric, it is not accepted for non-black celebrities to repeat it casually. Shawkat has categorically mentioned in her apology that the “N-word” should not be used by any non-black person.
The Search Party actress uploaded her apology on June 8, 2020, on her Instagram account. The young actress said she is learning the true meaning of being “an ally.” She also stated that people should be able to hear the voices and expressions of the Black people.
The said clip showed Shawkat being interviewed around four years ago. She also mentioned in her lengthy apology that she is sorry her ignorance has resulted in such consequences.
The actress has been a strong supporter of the ongoing movement called Black Lives Matter that gained momentum after the brutal killing of a 46-year-old Black American called George Floyd. Floyd was tortured and killed in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020.
A White Police Officer killed Floyd by kneeling on his neck for around 9 minutes during his arrest. The actress posted pictures on her Instagram page in support of this significant movement in the United States. Alia Shawkat also uploaded a picture on Instagram while attending a rally on May 31, 2020.
Meanwhile, her close pal Brad Pitt has been also quite vocal about this movement. The Hollywood A-lister wore a sweatshirt with George Floyd’s name emblazoned on it while participating in a protest rally in Los Angeles.
So far, Brad Pitt and Alia Shawkat have not been seen together at any of the local rallies in Los Angeles, Hollywood Life reports. They were last snapped together in Mar. this year while attending a concert before the social distancing orders were passed in California.
