In a recent episode of the popular talk show, "The View", co-host Whoopi Goldberg raised eyebrows and set social media abuzz when she candidly asked Alyssa Farah Griffin if she was expecting a child. The question, which seemed to come out of nowhere, left Griffin momentarily stunned but also amused.
Griffin, 34, later commented on the unexpected query, saying, "Whoopi, she thinks out loud sometimes, and I chose to take it as a compliment — that I'm glowing." She went on to describe Goldberg as "so sweet" and mentioned that the question was posed during a discussion about Senator Mitt Romney, who recently announced he would not be seeking a second term.
The unexpectedness of the question was further amplified by the presence of Griffin's mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law in the show's front-row audience. Both are reportedly eager for Griffin and her spouse to start a family. "If there are two people in my life who want me to be pregnant today more than anyone it’s them, so just the most fortuitous timing," Griffin remarked.
Brian Teta, the producer of "The View", shared a behind-the-scenes tidbit about Goldberg's spontaneous question. According to him, after the segment, Goldberg approached him and said, "It just came over me, I don’t know what happened. It was like a vision," suggesting that the question was a spur-of-the-moment thought.
Griffin, reflecting on the unpredictability of live television, said, "that's what makes the show fun. It's completely unpredictable. I thought we were talking about Mitt Romney but then we were talking about my pregnancy plans of the future — which just again, headline news, I am not pregnant at this time."
The incident led to a flurry of messages for Griffin during the commercial break, with reporters seeking her response. She humorously noted the shift in the nature of questions she receives, saying, "I used to take questions about like, there was a missile attack in Afghanistan and now I’m like, 'No, I'm not going to comment on my fake pregnancy right now.'"
Griffin ended on a light note, joking that if she were to become pregnant in the future, she would make sure to announce it on the show. "I guarantee if I actually told [Whoopi] privately that I was pregnant, her advice would be, 'Wait 'til you’re ready to tell people.' So that’s the funniest thing about it. She would never just shout it on air. But listen, that’s what makes the show interesting."
