Vice President Kamala Harris has recently come under fire for her repetitive use of the phrase "space cooperation" during a meeting with Mongolian Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai at the White House. The meeting, held on Wednesday, August 2, covered a range of topics, including tourism, space exploration, and more.
During her speech, Harris, 58, announced the next steps in the partnership between the United States and Mongolia, emphasizing the strengthening of "space cooperation." However, her repetition of the phrase three times in less than 30 seconds sparked criticism from the public.
Harris stated, "Today, I am pleased to announce that the next steps in our work together will be about further expanding our partnership. In particular, we will discuss the work that we will do together to strengthen our space cooperation." She continued, "You and I spoke briefly about the beginning of the next era — and, for you, what that means, in terms of your leadership and your vision for the future, and certainly, strengthening our space cooperation would be a part of that agenda — including, of course, using our space cooperation to think about how we strengthen the economic prosperity and development of our nations."
The Vice President's speech was quickly met with criticism online, with some users pointing out her struggle with public speaking. One user commented, "She speaks English worse than the guy from Mongolia. @KamalaHarris repeats the phrase 'our space cooperation' three times in less than 30 seconds." Another remarked, "I can see why Biden picked you ... you both speak the same brand of gibberish."
This incident is not the first time Harris has faced criticism for her public speaking skills. She has been frequently called out for her "word salads." In July, Harris attempted to explain artificial intelligence (AI) to a group of labor and civil rights leaders, but her explanation was deemed confusing and incoherent by some listeners.
Despite the criticism, Harris continues to play a pivotal role in the Biden administration, focusing on strengthening international partnerships and exploring new avenues for cooperation, such as space exploration. However, her public speaking skills remain a point of contention and a source of public scrutiny.
