In a recent development, Grammy-winning artist Lizzo has broken her silence on the allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination leveled against her by her former backup dancers. The singer, known for her body positivity and empowerment anthems, has been accused of forcing her dancers to attend explicit adult shows in Amsterdam and Paris during a tour, despite their discomfort. The lawsuit also alleges that Lizzo and her team body-shamed a dancer for gaining weight.
In a statement posted on social media, Lizzo responded to the accusations, describing the past few days as "gut-wrenchingly difficult and overwhelmingly disappointing." She expressed her dismay at having her work ethic, morals, and respectfulness questioned and her character criticized. "Usually, I choose not to respond to false allegations but these are as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous to not be addressed,” she said.
The "Truth Hurts" singer went on to claim that the allegations come from former employees who had previously been informed that their behavior on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional. She emphasized her openness about her sexuality and self-expression but rejected the notion that this openness could be used to portray her in a negative light.
"There is nothing I take more seriously than the respect we deserve as women in the world. I know what it feels like to be body shamed on a daily basis and would absolutely never criticize or terminate an employee because of their weight," Lizzo stated.
Despite the hurt caused by the allegations, Lizzo vowed not to let this incident overshadow her work and thanked everyone who has reached out in support during this challenging time. As of now, she has not yet responded to the case in court.
