Former NFL quarterback Carson Wentz is facing a wave of backlash on social media after proudly sharing a photo of a black bear he killed on a hunting trip in Alaska. The 30-year-old free agent, celebrated for his role in the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2017 Super Bowl victory, is now drawing more criticism than applause for his off-field exploits.
After experiencing a tumultuous career, which has seen him lose three jobs, Wentz is now under fire for boasting about his hunting conquest. He recently shared a photo on social media in which he was seen beaming over the carcass of a large black bear, a trophy from his latest expedition.
Highlighting his accomplishment, Wentz stated that hunting the bear was a fulfillment of a "bucket list" item. He captioned his photo, "Got the opportunity to spot and stalk black bear in one of our new favorite places on earth — Alaska! Incredible trip and an incredible animal.”
This isn’t the first time Wentz has ventured into the hunting terrain. In the past, he and his brother Zach have shared their hunting adventures involving deer, ducks, and turkeys.
However, this latest endeavor did not sit well with many fans. Following his departure from the Washington Commanders in February, the quarterback found himself at the receiving end of a different sort of tackle - a barrage of social media criticism, decrying his hunting practice.
One angered commenter retorted, “Hope next time bear wins and you lay down." Another exclaimed, "That’s just awful! I can’t believe you killed a bear for sport. Changed my whole perspective of you.”
Adding a touch of sarcasm, a follower stated, “We know your football career is over, so you have to do another thing for a living. But this is not the way! Respect the animals, nature. It’s not for your fun.”
Some took a jab at his football career with a commenter saying, “Killing for fun. Glad the Eagles dumped you. Focus on getting better at throwing the ball than your bucket list.”
As the criticism mounts, it's evident that Wentz's sporting pursuit has not endeared him to a significant number of his followers. As one fan pointed out, it's unlikely he'll be in contention for a place on the Chicago Bears roster anytime soon.
