Hollywood A-listers including Julia Roberts and Gwyneth Paltrow will soon hand over their respective Instagram pages to black activists, entrepreneurs, and authors. They are doing so as a part of a brand new campaign on social media.

A social media campaign is being launched on Wednesday (June 10), which is called #ShareTheMic Now. The campaign will see Black women share their thoughts using the Instagram pages of famous white women who have large fan bases.

The new campaign wishes to boost the important work being done by various black women to bring in a change. The campaign also aims to encourage the bonding between black and white women.

It also happens to be one of those numerous initiatives that emerged from the ongoing nation-wide protests against the brutal killing of a 46-year-old black man, Deadline reports.

However, this unique initiative on social media will be just for a day. A large number of white women who enjoy a huge fan following including some of the Hollywood stars will hand over their social media accounts so that the efforts of the black women they will work with can be enhanced and brought to public knowledge.

Apart from Julia Roberts and Gwyneth Paltrow, some of the other celebrities who will hand over their social media accounts are Ashley Graham, Kourtney Kardashian, Chelsea Handler, and Brandi Carlile.

The organizers of this unprecedented initiative mentioned that the campaign has four major goals. It will enhance the lives of black women; forge a strong bond between white women and black women, create action, which could bring about change, and form a strong network of women who have deep trust in each other.

The campaign will witness 46 white women handing over their social media accounts to 46 black women for a day. The goal is to reach out to as many as 300 million netizens, which is the combined strength of their followers on Instagram, People reports.

While Latham Thomas will be partnering with Paltrow, Roberts is teaming up with Kahlana Barfield Brown, a beauty and fashion editor. Ashley Graham will be handing over her account to Opal Tometi, a human rights activist while Kourtney Kardashian will work with Saint John.

Julia Roberts, Gwyneth Paltrow, and many others have joined the #ShareTheMicNow campaign on Instagram amid the protests against racism that has shaken up not only the United States but the entire world. The chain of protests started after a 46-year-old black man called George Floyd was killed by some cops in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25, 2020.
