The creator of "Yellowstone," Taylor Sheridan, is desperately trying to convince Kevin Costner to return to the widely popular Western series to wrap up the story. However, sources say Costner is keeping his distance due to a contentious relationship with the showrunner, according to The National ENQUIRER.
“Kevin is eager to reprise his role as John Dutton for a fitting farewell and to fulfill the storyline he's committed to for years,” a close source shares. “But the existing animosity and back-and-forth arguments with Taylor have led Kevin to believe that their relationship is irreparable, regardless of Taylor's current overtures.”
As previously reported by The National ENQUIRER, the TV series "Yellowstone" was canceled in May when Costner, aged 68, expressed a desire to reduce his filming days in Montana. The production was shut down without wrapping up the last six episodes of the final fifth season. Despite Costner's absence, insiders hint that filming is set to continue.
Sheridan, 53, has allegedly attempted a final reconciliation by accepting the unjust criticism Costner faced due to the show's cancellation. Sheridan lauded Costner’s compelling portrayal of the Dutton family patriarch.
An insider says, “Taylor is pulling out all the stops to rectify the situation. He's put a significant part of himself into the show and its storyline, and he wants it to conclude precisely as he envisaged. It's unfortunate that Kevin is so insistent about not coming back, as the real losers in this situation are the fans.”
However, sources say that Costner, the Academy Award-winning star of "Dances with Wolves," has a lot on his plate. He is currently dealing with his messy divorce from estranged wife Christine Baumgartner and focusing on his longstanding dream project — a four-part Civil War saga called "Horizon: An American Saga."
