Kelly Clarkson, the renowned singer and 'The Voice' coach, is already obligated to pay her ex-spouse, Brandon Blackstock, nearly $200,000 monthly, and sources informed The National ENQUIRER that her move to New York might add to this financial burden while stirring up their heated custody dispute anew.
During their tumultuous divorce resolution last year, Clarkson, 41, secured primary custody of their two children - nine-year-old daughter River Rose and seven-year-old son Remy. Meanwhile, Blackstock received monthly spousal support of $150,000 and child support of $45,601, in addition to one weekend each month with the children.
As Clarkson, who is reported to earn $1.5 million monthly, transitions from Los Angeles to New York, it is likely she will have to cover the expenses for Blackstock's visits with their children in the metropolis.
"A friend explained, "Brandon resides in Montana. When Kelly was living in L.A., it was relatively easy for the children to travel for their visits with their father. However, New York City presents a significantly longer journey."
Further, Blackstock, who remains engaged in legal proceedings with Clarkson over his managerial commissions during their marital years, might intensify the pressure on her.
"Brandon could insist that Kelly finance his air travel to New York for visiting River Rose and Remy and also pay for his accommodation in a high-end hotel," a second source clarified. "There have been previous instances where such claims have been successfully argued in court by divorced parents."
"Kelly would rather not shell out any additional funds to Brandon," the source continued. "However, she may have to, if she wants to steer clear of yet another bitter legal showdown."
