Alyssa Farah Griffin, co-host of 'The View,' has retorted sharply to disparaging remarks made by former boss, Donald Trump, on Fox News. Griffin, who served as Trump's assistant and White House Director of Strategic Communications in 2020, clarified her position of non-allegiance to any politician, including the 45th president.
Griffin's comments were in response to an interview Trump had with Brett Baier, a Fox News anchor. In the interview, Baier talked about the pattern of former Trump associates distancing themselves from the ex-president. Griffin, who used to provide the Republican perspective as a CNN commentator, discussed Trump's interview on Anderson Cooper's AC360 show.
In his conversation with Baier, Trump made vague references to the trend of his former allies turning their backs on him post-tenure. Trump stated, "When people leave, they can like me very much." He singled out Griffin, saying she praised him highly after her departure from his administration. He insinuated that Griffin's viewpoint shifted negatively once she was offered a contract with 'The View,' concluding that "Money gets offered to people and some people change.”
Reacting to Trump's critique, Griffin debunked his assertions by providing a factual chronology of her public disapproval of Trump's January 6 actions, which led to her resignation. "I was on Fox News on Jan. 7 – the day after Jan. 6 – 2021, where I denounced him and said he was unfit for office and should resign," Griffin explained to Cooper. "And I’ve done that every day since."
Countering the allegations of altering her position after signing with 'The View,' Griffin pointed out that she joined the show nearly two years after her departure from the Trump administration, highlighting the inaccuracy of Trump's timeline.
Reiterating her commitment to the country over any individual, the talk show host emphasized, "Donald Trump doesn’t seem to understand that those of us who served in his administration, we swore an oath to the Constitution. We did not swear an oath of loyalty to Donald Trump."
"I would never swear one to any politician and I think he needs to realize we don’t owe him anything," Griffin concluded, firmly standing her ground against the former president's allegations.
