The path to familial reconciliation appears to be riddled with mistrust for Prince William as his younger brother, Prince Harry, pledges an end to public criticisms of the British royal family, palace insiders reveal.
Harry, 38, alongside his wife Meghan Markle, has allegedly communicated through mutual friends that they no longer intend to make public disclosures about his royal relations. This comes on the heels of a high-profile TV interview where allegations of racism within the monarchy were raised, a controversial Netflix documentary, and his memoir, "Spare," which did not spare anyone from his father, King Charles, to his sister-in-law, Kate.
"Many within the royal circle, including Kate, are hopeful that this signifies a meaningful step towards reconciliation and an end to the public airing of grievances," confides a palace official.
However, for William, these promises are met with skepticism. His indignation and hurt, stemming from the barrage of public disclosures, are yet to subside.
"William is incredulous at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's apparent extension of an olive branch, and is dubious about their commitment to this pledge," the official reveals.
The insider further elaborates that while William is not trying to harbor ill feelings, his trust in Harry has been irreparably damaged due to previous disappointments. He is particularly perturbed by Harry's selective relationships within the royal family.
Conversely, for King Charles and others, the prospect of Harry and Meghan's silence on monarchy-related issues comes as a respite, the insider reveals.
"Though they view any positive change as a good sign and are urging William to follow suit, William remains reluctant to absolve Harry of past actions. He perceives any concession given to the Sussexes will only lead to further demands and has communicated his stance clearly," the insider adds.
Interestingly, Kate has a softer stance towards Harry. The insider claims she empathizes with him and suggests that Meghan is the primary instigator of their actions. She encourages William to remain patient, hoping Harry will eventually realize his missteps.
"Kate persists in her belief in Harry, but convincing William that there is still hope for mending their relationship is proving to be a daunting task. He is firmly convinced that the situation is beyond repair," concludes the insider.
