Comedian Pete Davidson, a regular on 'Saturday Night Live', has been officially charged with reckless driving by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. This comes three months after he was involved in a car accident in Beverly Hills, where his vehicle crashed into a private residence. Davidson is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, July 27.
A representative from the DA's office commented on the charge, saying, "Fortunately, no one sustained severe injuries from this accident. However, we need to recognize the potential dangers of reckless driving. Traffic fatalities in Los Angeles reached a 20-year high in 2022. We can't turn a blind eye to this worrying trend. It's paramount that we treat all accusations of reckless driving with utmost seriousness and hold the culprits accountable."
As reported earlier, the 29-year-old comedian was driving in a Beverly Hills neighborhood with his girlfriend, Chase Sui Wonders, 27, when the accident occurred. Davidson lost control of his Mercedes, first hitting a fire hydrant and then crashing into a house. No injuries were reported, and neither drugs nor alcohol were thought to be involved. No arrests were made at the time of the accident.
At the time of the incident, the only person in the house was a 16-year-old girl. In an interview, her father acknowledged that the crash left her somewhat shaken, as she initially believed she was experiencing an earthquake.
Despite the accident, the family declared they had no intention of pursuing legal action. It was understood that Davidson, the star of the movie 'Bupkis', would pay for the undisclosed damages to the property. Pictures from the scene revealed substantial damage to the house, including a collapsed section, tire tracks on the lawn, and destroyed shrubs.
According to a report from TMZ, the first outlet to announce the formal charges against Davidson, the comedian faces potential penalties if convicted, including up to 90 days in jail or a financial fine. The case continues to unfold, as the consequences of Davidson's alleged reckless driving are being taken seriously by law enforcement officials.
