A wealth of new information has emerged, casting a grim light on the psychological state of notorious financier Jeffrey Epstein prior to his suicide in 2019.
Contained within the unearthed records from Epstein's period in the Metropolitan Correctional Center following his arrest on federal sex trafficking charges in July 2019, is a letter, penned by Epstein himself, to Larry Nassar. Nassar, a former doctor for the U.S. gymnastics team, was convicted for sexually abusing numerous athletes.
The prison official who discovered the letter remarked, "It seemed he had sent it out, but it had been returned to him. I'm uncertain whether to open it or pass it to someone."
According to jail administrators, Epstein displayed signs of agitation and suffered from insomnia during his incarceration, even dubbing himself a "coward". Life behind bars was a stark contrast to the luxury and freedom he was accustomed to.
At the time, Epstein was under psychological observation following a suicide attempt. Despite this, he denied having suicidal thoughts, insisting to a psychologist that his life was "wonderful" and that it would be "crazy to end it."
On August 10, 2019, Epstein was found dead in his cell.
In a puzzling incident the evening prior to his death, Epstein missed a lawyer's appointment, citing a need to contact his family. As stated in a unit manager's memo, Epstein had informed a prison staff member that he was attempting to call his mother. The mystery deepens as Epstein's mother had passed away 15 years earlier.
As previously reported by OK!, Epstein's private calendars from March 2010 disclosed a meeting with Sarah Ferguson, the former wife of Prince Andrew. During this time, Epstein was five months into a house arrest sentence following his conviction for soliciting a minor for prostitution. Epstein had previously served a 13-month prison sentence and was released on July 22, 2009, into a year-long probationary period under house arrest until August 2010.
Prince Andrew has publicly discussed his association with Epstein in 2019.
His Highness acknowledged his 2010 visit to Epstein as an error of judgment, and while conceding that their friendship yielded some "seriously beneficial outcomes", it ultimately led to his withdrawal from full-time royal duties due to his association with Epstein.
In Prince Andrew's words, "On balance, could I have avoided ever meeting him? Probably not and that's because of my friendship with Ghislaine [Maxwell], it was… it was… it was inevitable that we would have come across each other. Do I regret the fact that he has quite obviously conducted himself in a manner unbecoming? Yes."
The Daily Mail first reported on the recently discovered letter.
