Despite Meghan Markle's decision to stay in California with her two children during King Charles III's coronation, an internet rumor has sparked speculation that she attended the event incognito. Prince Harry attended his father's crowning ceremony in London on Saturday without the Duchess of Sussex.
Twitter users humorously suggested that a coronation guest at Westminster Abbey with long hair, a mustache, and tinted sunglasses might have been Meghan in disguise.
One user tweeted, "That's Meghan Markle under disguise," while another wrote, "[Meghan], you're not fooling us…" and a third claimed, "I don't know much about [the] coronation. But I do know this is Meghan Markle in disguise."
Some individuals, however, criticized those who made the comparison between Meghan and the male guest and urged others not to fixate on the duchess when she did not attend the event.
One person commented, "Royal fans need to take a chill pill and focus on their own lives. The obsession with Meghan and Harry is not going to make their lives better." Another added, "She was attending to her child's birthday. The level of anger and negative attention toward Meghan is getting kind of ridiculous and pathological. Whether or not you agree with her, don't forget that she is a person and most importantly, a mother. Harry was there, and that is enough."
The New York Post identified the man in the photograph as Sir Karl Jenkins, a renowned composer whose work was featured during the coronation service. Jenkins, 79, is best known for his compositions "Adiemus," "Palladio," "The Armed Man," and "Requiem." He has also won industry awards for his advertising music and was a former member and lead songwriter of the jazz-rock band Soft Machine.
Jenkins expressed his honor at participating in the coronation, telling the BBC, "It obviously sums up Welsh culture—the harp—and he [King Charles III] has always supported Welsh music. I don't know whether he chose it, but he was happy to have it there. I know he likes it; otherwise, he wouldn't have asked me."
Buckingham Palace announced last month that Prince Harry would attend King Charles' coronation but that his wife and their children would stay in California. Following the ceremony, Prince Harry returned to Montecito to celebrate Archie's 4th birthday, which coincided with his grandfather's crowning event.
