Newly revealed court documents suggest that Joe Biden's brother, Jim Biden, leveraged his family name and political connections to secure a profitable role in coordinating under-the-table deals with Iraq and Saudi Arabia. The current president may have been aware of the influence-peddling scheme.
The papers indicate that in 2012, Jim negotiated on behalf of an American firm, Hill International, to persuade Saudi Arabia to settle a $140 million outstanding debt. Court documents reveal that Jim admitted to former U.S. Treasury agent and private investigator Thomas Sullivan that his "position and relationship" with Joe, then vice president under Barack Obama, were the primary reasons for his hiring. "Of course, the [Biden] name didn't hurt," Jim, 73, reportedly stated.
However, the president's beleaguered brother has refuted these allegations. A representative for Jim said in a statement, "Mr. Biden never negotiated with the Saudi Government on behalf of Hill or any other entity. This entire story is yet another attempt to smear Jim Biden."
Hill CEO Irvin Richter allegedly disclosed that he "selected Biden" because Saudi Arabia "would not dare stiff the brother of the vice president, who would be instrumental to the deal." The unpaid debt originated in the 1980s when Hill constructed desalination plants in Saudi Arabia. Court documents indicate that Jim successfully negotiated a settlement, with the Saudis agreeing to repay $100 million and guarantee future contracts. However, law firm Lankford & Reed claims it was denied a promised 40 percent payout after years of working to recover the debt.
Sources assert this is not the first time Jim Biden's name has been associated with capitalizing on Joe's political position. In 2020, it was revealed that Jim received $65,000 monthly payments from Chinese oil and gas conglomerate CEFC to assist in securing energy deals, an arrangement currently under investigation by federal prosecutors. Jim also allegedly helped Hill secure a 2010 contract to construct 100,000 affordable housing units in Iraq while Joe was Obama's point person.
Court documents imply that Joe likely knew of his brother's business dealings. In an affidavit filed by Sullivan, Jim's wife, Sara, purportedly admitted that during a meeting on July 6, 2017, Jim and Joe "told each other everything."
A political source informed The ENQUIRER that these revelations may encourage the Republican-controlled House of Representatives to further investigate the Biden family. An insider commented, "It's getting harder for Joe to say he knew nothing about what his relatives were doing!"
