K-pop group BTS' Suga is taking the world by storm with his solo album 'D-DAY' and first solo world tour.
Suga, under the stage name Agust D, released 'D-DAY' on April 21st, and its title track 'Haegum' entered the US Billboard 'Hot 100' chart (dated May 6th) at No. 58. Additionally, 'D-DAY' achieved a personal best by ranking No. 2 on the main album chart, 'Billboard 200.' He previously ranked No. 11 on the 'Billboard 200' in 2020 with his mixtape 'D-2,' released for free.
'D-DAY' is the conclusion of the Agust D trilogy, following his mixtapes 'Agust D' (2016) and 'D-2.' As an album containing heartfelt stories encompassing both Suga and Agust D, it has been receiving global acclaim from fans, setting K-pop firsts and personal best records.
On its release day, 'D-DAY' became an instant million-seller with over 1.07 million copies sold (based on Hanteo Chart) and set a new record for the highest first-day sales for a solo artist's album. Suga has also excelled on major music charts in Asia, Europe, and the United States.
'D-DAY' debuted at No. 1 on France's SNEP Top Album chart (dated April 28th), No. 3 on Germany's Official Top 10 Album chart (dated April 28th), and No. 7 on Italy's Acharts Top 100 Album chart (dated April 25th).
Additionally, 'D-DAY' topped Japan's Oricon 'Weekly Digital Album Ranking' (dated May 1st) and entered Australia's ARIA chart (dated May 1st) at No. 4.
Suga kicked off his world tour, 'SUGA | Agust D-DAY TOUR,' with stunning performances in Belmont Park, New York, Newark, New Jersey, and Rosemont, Illinois from April 26th to 27th and May 3rd (local time). He captivated approximately 55,000 fans across four shows, signaling a successful start to his tour.
During the tour, Suga will perform songs from 'D-DAY,' 'Agust D,' and 'D-2,' showcasing both his personas. The stage production and setlist have been designed to best convey the transformation of Suga and Agust D, their dual artistic identities, their ongoing struggles as musicians, and the history of the Agust D trilogy.
Fans worldwide and major international media outlets have been praising his unique and special stage performances. British music magazine NME awarded Suga's world tour concert a perfect score of five stars, stating, "His artistic intent was impressive; despite being his first solo tour, Suga looked comfortable on stage and exuded confidence. This tour is an opportunity for him to reveal his musicianship. It was unlike any other stage we have seen so far."
US entertainment media outlet Variety praised the concert, saying, "The concert starts like a noir musical; Suga raps and sings on stage, revealing various facets of himself as BTS' Suga, his other persona Agust D, and Min Yoongi."
Suga will continue his US tour with performances in Rosemont on May 5th-6th, Los Angeles on May 10th-11th and 14th, and Oakland on May 16th-17th.
