Ahead of King Charles III's coronation on May 6, Kate Middleton has admitted to feeling nervous during a walkabout in London. While she's anxious, her children are reportedly quite excited for the event.
The Princess of Wales accompanied her husband, Prince William, as they greeted well-wishers outside the Dog & Duck Pub in Soho. Mandy Leifheit from Seattle, Washington, had the opportunity to ask Kate about her children's excitement for the coronation. Kate responded, "They're very excited. They had their rehearsal yesterday so they knew what they'd expect."
According to People magazine, Kate mentioned that she is more nervous than her children since the coronation is a significant event for them to be a part of. She also said that Louis would be present and would remember the occasion.
Leifheit, who managed to take a selfie with Kate Middleton, described the encounter as "a dream." She praised the princess, saying, "She's so real and so natural — and this would be overwhelming, but it's not, and she's here."
Kate stood out in the crowd, wearing a bright red coat by Eponine London. Leifheit, a 48-year-old advertising sales professional, remarked that the coat reminded her of Queen Elizabeth II.
Leifheit told Kate she had traveled from Seattle, to which the royal replied, "People have come a long way." The royal fan praised Kate, saying, "She was so gracious. The fact they're in London doing a walkabout is a dream come true. I love that they came to a pub. It's real."
Another well-wisher, Carol Holcomb from Denver, Colorado, shared her amazement at seeing a future queen in person. She complimented the Princess of Wales, stating, "She was so poised, and she handles it all so well. That's the most exciting thing that will happen this trip."
Kate Middleton does not have a specific role during King Charles III's coronation, but Prince William and their eldest child, Prince George, do. Prince William, as heir to the throne, will pledge his loyalty to the new monarch during "The Homage of the Royal Blood" ceremony. He will also assist Baroness Merron and the bishops in dressing his father in the robes.
Prince George will serve as one of the Pages of Honour, accompanying His Majesty during the procession and ensuring his robes do not drag on the floor. Although Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte do not have roles in the coronation service, they will reportedly sit with their mother in the congregation.
King Charles III will be crowned alongside his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, at Westminster Abbey in London. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, will officiate the ceremony, attended by 2,200 guests, including royal family members, heads of state, and other invitees. Prince Harry will attend the coronation alone, while Meghan Markle remains in California with their children.
A coronation concert celebrating King Charles III and Queen Camilla will take place at Windsor Castle on May 7. Performers include Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, Take That, and Andrea Bocelli, among others.
