It was around 50 years ago when Elton John ended his engagement to Linda Hannon just weeks before their wedding day. However, his recent touching gesture to the same lady speaks volumes about his generous nature.
Linda Hannon always referred to the iconic musician as Reg Dwight when they were dating. She was strong support for the rock star even before he became popular.
The duo was about to get married but the singer’s songwriting associate Bernie Taupin persuaded him not to get married to her at his bachelor party. So, the wedding did not take place eventually.
Today, the 73-year-old singer is a global superstar while his former girlfriend leads an uneventful life. She works as an office manager at a doctor’s office in Dallas, Texas. However, she never resented the singer’s actions and is proud of his flourishing singing career.
When Hannon required help, she immediately recalled her old love who she still remembers as Reg. It was a fabulous moment for Hannon when John responded to her call. An outlet helped her to get in touch with him.
The 76-year-woman was in great pain for many months now as she has to go for a knee replacement surgery. However, she is not able to undergo the operation because of her incapability to take leave from work for five weeks for the recovery process.
Her working hours have been slashed amid the coronavirus pandemic and she cannot afford to opt for unpaid leave. While the pain in her knee was unbearable, she thought of her former boyfriend and whether the singer could help her out in this predicament.
She sent a few emails to Elton John’s management team and included a few private details that only her ex-boyfriend could recall. However, she was a bit doubtful about whether her mails will reach him or not given the enormous volume of fan mails he receives daily.
Hannon then got in touch with The Mirror and was hopeful that the pop star might come across her story and reach out for help. She recollects how she paid for the food and rent bills when John was just starting his career.
The publication forwarded her story to the management team of the singer and they got back instantly. The team said the singer would love to stand by her. An insider close to the musician told the publication that the moment he got to know about her plight, he immediately offered to pay for the expenses.
The world-famous musician remembers her benevolent gestures half a century ago when Bernie and he required the support. Hannon, on the other hand, said Reg’s gesture was so touching although so many years have passed since they last interacted. She further said how thrilled she was that he has offered to pay for her knee surgery.
Meanwhile, according to a recent report, the musician had to incur a massive financial loss of $120 million after the recent global crisis compelled him to cancel his Farewell tour. According to Daily Mail, Elton John and David Furnish are devastated as they were expecting that the cash would serve as his retirement fund.
