As King Charles III's coronation approaches, Meghan Markle's contentious 2014 blog post about Kate Middleton has reemerged, sparking renewed interest and discussion.
The Duchess of Sussex, who gained fame as an actress in the television series "Suits," wrote a post on her now-defunct lifestyle blog, "The Tig," expressing her frustration with the constant chatter surrounding "Princess Kate" and Prince William's royal wedding.
In the blog post, penned two years before meeting her now-husband Prince Harry, Markle shared that she did not share the common childhood dream of becoming a princess. Instead, she admired She-Ra, the main character from the 1980s animated show "She-Ra: Princess of Power."
Markle wrote in the post, "For those of you unfamiliar with the '80s cartoon reference, She-Ra is the twin sister of He-Man and a sword-wielding royal rebel known for her strength. We're definitely not talking about Cinderella here."
The 41-year-old former actress also pointed out that some adult women cling to the "childhood fantasy" of becoming a princess. "Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation about Princess Kate," she continued.
Since then, Markle and Middleton have made headlines for their reportedly tense relationship. Prince Harry's tell-all memoir, "Spare," alleges that Middleton made Markle cry over Princess Charlotte's bridesmaid dress just days before their 2018 wedding. He also claimed that Middleton "grimaced" when Markle asked to borrow lip gloss during their first joint public appearance in 2018.
After stepping back from their royal duties in 2020, Harry and Markle have been living in California. Markle will remain there during her father-in-law's coronation this weekend, while Harry will attend the ceremony. The extent of the former military pilot's involvement in his father's coronation remains unclear.
Although "The Tig" was shut down before Markle joined the royal family, her blog post about Middleton has resurfaced several times, most recently in February. The blog, named after her favorite Italian wine, covered fashion, food, beauty, and travel during its prime.
