Gayle King has revealed that her friends Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are in a positive place following the release of Harry's controversial memoir about his family earlier this year.

At the Time 100 Gala, King told Page Six, "I think that Harry and Meghan are living their truth and I think they will make their best decisions for themselves." The "CBS Mornings" co-host went on to say, "I think they're very solid," and made it clear that they don't consult her about their decisions.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from senior royal life in January 2020 and have since settled in California. King, 68, has been a longtime friend and supporter of the couple, having been introduced to them through her best friend, Oprah Winfrey.

King attended Markle's 2019 baby shower when the Duchess was expecting Prince Archie. The anchor described the event as "a very, very small, private affair and just a very special time for her" on air.

In 2022, King defended the couple when Andy Cohen humorously referred to the Netflix series "Harry & Meghan" as a reality show. "It's not a reality show," King responded. "It's not."

One recent decision made by the couple was for Markle not to attend the upcoming coronation of King Charles III. Instead, Prince Harry will attend the ceremony alone.

Page Six exclusively reported that Markle felt attending the event would be "inauthentic" given the drama surrounding the couple's departure from royal life. An insider familiar with the couple said, "They had to make a decision that felt genuine and authentic, especially after everything that has been said and all the things that have gone down."

Markle also opted not to attend the May 6 coronation, as it coincides with her son Prince Archie's fourth birthday.

At the star-studded gala, King expressed her joy at socializing with other celebrities. "This is a very special night," she said. "I feel people are just so glad to be out of the house. We still have COVID lurking around, but I'm tired of being afraid of it, so to come out and celebrate people who are doing good things for the world and changing things in the world is a great thing."

Other attendees at the annual event included Ali Wong, Michael B. Jordan, Drew Barrymore, Kim Kardashian, Lea Michele, Don Lemon, Salma Hayek, and Mia Farrow.
