Prince Harry has accused Piers Morgan of being aware of, promoting, and concealing illegal surveillance of his mother, Princess Diana, when Morgan was the editor of News of the World. In court documents, Prince Harry alleged that Rupert Murdoch's tabloid newspapers gained access to Princess Diana's private messages and phone calls and used the information for various stories.
Prince Harry claimed that these actions were concealed in the 1990s, and he provided a list of articles published during that period, such as Diana's phone call with art dealer Oliver Hoare, a private meeting with Sarah Ferguson, and Diana's trip to the U.S. without her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
However, Morgan has refuted any involvement in the phone hacking scandal. In a tweet, the 58-year-old TV host wrote, "Oh dear, are Prince Privacy’s recollections varying again? When is this permanently angry, narcissistic little twerp going to stop whining, stop suing, stop trashing his family, stop damaging the Monarchy, and just shut up?"
Prince Harry is currently suing Murdoch's News Group Newspapers (NGN) for obtaining unlawful information, such as his wife Meghan Markle's social security number. In the documents, Harry claimed that Queen Elizabeth had made a deal with the media organization, stating that NGN would "admit or settle such a claim with an apology" at the conclusion of the Mobile Telephone Voicemail Interception Litigation (MTVIL).
According to the court documents, the arrangement was made to keep all matters private and avoid the need for anyone to testify. Prince Harry noted that the monarchy was particularly concerned about avoiding the kind of reputational damage it had suffered in 1993 when The Sun and another tabloid unlawfully obtained and published details of an intimate phone conversation between Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles.
The documents also revealed that Prince William had received "a very large sum" after settling a lawsuit with NGN a few years ago. The document reads, “The claimant has had to make public the details of this secret agreement, as well as the fact that his brother, His Royal Highness, Prince William, has recently settled his claim against NGN behind the scenes.”
