Prince Harry has accused Piers Morgan of being complicit in illegal information-gathering targeting his mother, the late Princess Diana, while Morgan was the editor of the News of the World in the 1990s.

According to court documents obtained by The Guardian, the Duke of Sussex alleged that journalists from Rupert Murdoch's tabloids unlawfully accessed private text messages and phone calls of Princess Diana before her tragic death in 1997.

In the court filings, Prince Harry claimed that Morgan, along with former News of the World editors Phil Hall and Bob Bird and former Sun editors Stuart Higgins and David Yelland, was aware of and concealed illegal activities targeting Princess Diana, Prince Charles, and Camilla Parker-Bowles.

The documents include a list of articles published during Morgan's tenure as editor of News of the World between January 1994 and August 1995, which the prince alleges were the result of unlawful information-gathering.

Several of the stories in question were reportedly written by former News of the World royal correspondent Clive Goodman, who was imprisoned in 2007 for hacking the phones of royal family aides between November 2005 and August 2006.

Gary Jones, a former News of the World reporter and current editor of the Daily Express, is also said to have written one of the stories based on illegally obtained information.

These allegations are part of Prince Harry's phone-hacking claim against News Group Newspapers (NGN), the publisher of The Sun and News of the World, which is being heard at the London high court. NGN has denied any illegal activities, according to The Guardian.

In 2022, court filings from lawyers representing alleged phone-hacking victims claimed that a Daily Mirror reporter had engaged in voicemail interception and examined phone bills with the help of a private detective agency while Morgan was the editor.

Morgan was dismissed from the Daily Mirror in 2004 and left ITV's "Good Morning Britain" two years ago following controversial comments about Meghan Markle, Prince Harry's wife. He now hosts a nightly show on Murdoch's TalkTV channel.
