Sources close to Gwyneth Paltrow have revealed that the actress and lifestyle entrepreneur is "mentally and physically exhausted" after the intense hit-and-run ski trial. According to insiders, the ordeal has led her to seek assistance from "all of her healing experts" to help her recover and move past the experience.
Though Paltrow won the case against plaintiff Dr. Terry Sanderson, the distress and public scrutiny she endured during the trial has left her seeking a fresh start. However, Paltrow's legal challenges may not be over, as Sanderson's attorney, Robert Sykes, has stated that his client is considering further legal action.
Sykes said, "We sincerely disagree with the outcome and will consider all options moving forward... including a motion to the court for a new trial or a possible appeal. All of those things are on the table."
The Goop founder was sued by the retired optometrist for $300,000 in damages after a collision on a ski slope at Deer Valley Resort in 2016. Sanderson initially attempted to sue Paltrow for $3.1 million in 2019, but that complaint was dismissed by a judge. In response, the Shallow Hal actress countersued for $1, demonstrating that her motivation was about principle rather than money.
Sanderson alleged that Paltrow's "full-body hit" caused him multiple broken ribs and other injuries, resulting in a "loss of enjoyment of life." Paltrow countered with her own account of the incident, stating, "Mr. Sanderson hit me."
The Iron Man star described the event, saying, "Two skis came between my skis, forcing my legs apart, and then there was a body pressing against me and there was a very strange grunting noise. So my brain was trying to make sense of what was happening. I thought, 'Is this a practical joke? Is someone doing something perverted? This is really, really strange.'"
Ultimately, Paltrow was awarded her $1 in damages, along with her lawyers' fees, from Sanderson.
