Hunter Biden's legal team is scheduled to meet with US Attorney David Weiss and at least one official from the Justice Department headquarters next week, coinciding with President Joe Biden's anticipated announcement of his second term bid, according to RadarOnline.com.
CNN reported that several sources familiar with the ongoing investigation into Hunter Biden's business dealings revealed that his lawyers had requested an update from Justice Department officials. In response, they were invited to meet with Weiss, who is overseeing the probe—a standard procedure.
Appointed by former President Donald Trump, Weiss is the US Attorney in Delaware managing the investigation into Hunter Biden. Although he has not been formally charged with any crimes, prosecutors are still considering bringing charges against him, including two misdemeanors for failure to file taxes, one count of felony tax evasion related to overreporting expenses, and a false statement charge regarding a gun purchase. Hunter Biden has denied any wrongdoing.
The meeting is set to occur the same week President Biden is expected to announce his bid for re-election. RadarOnline.com reported on Thursday that the 80-year-old President and his team are planning to reveal his re-election announcement in a campaign video on April 25, the fourth anniversary of his 2020 campaign launch.
Should Biden win, he will become the oldest president in US history and will be 86 at the end of his second term in 2029. His potential opponents include anti-vaccine activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr., spiritual guru Marianne Williamson, and his long-time rival, Trump, who is seeking the Republican nomination.
Trump's 34-count indictment will not prevent him from running in 2024. Earlier this month, the former president was arrested and arraigned in Manhattan on charges related to alleged hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels. Trump pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to return to court later this year.
