More than a year after the tragic on-set shooting that claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, actor Alec Baldwin and the "Rust" cast and crew are set to resume production this week. A film spokesperson informed CNN that shooting will recommence on Thursday at the Yellowstone Film Ranch in Montana, a location chosen in honor of Halyna's memory.
In 2021, the "Rust" production began in New Mexico, but was abruptly halted when Baldwin accidentally shot and killed Halyna and injured director Joel Souza with a prop gun. Only recently did the production company secure a new church as the film's backdrop, resembling the original location.
Halyna's widower, Matthew Hutchins, reached an undisclosed settlement in the wrongful death lawsuit filed against Baldwin and the production companies in October. This allowed the film to move forward with its original principal cast, with Matthew taking on the role of Executive Producer.
Despite resuming production, Baldwin still faces numerous lawsuits, including one from his crew members. In February, Baldwin and "Rust" armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed were charged with involuntary manslaughter, to which Baldwin pleaded not guilty. This came after the Santa Fe County District Attorney dropped a gun enhancement charge against the actor.
