Britney Spears and her husband, Sam Asghari, are reportedly facing relationship issues that have led to a trial separation, less than a year after they tied the knot. While the couple maintains that their relationship isn't over, sources say they are barely holding on due to recent tensions.
"Publicly, Britney and Sam are saying they're not done yet, but it's common knowledge they're hanging by a thread — and all the recent tensions have really taken a toll," reveals an insider, per National Enquirer.
Asghari has reportedly struggled with Spears' mood swings and constant demands, and the situation has begun to affect his own well-being. "It's like a full-time job taking care of her and worrying when she's going to blow up next. The guy has to look after himself," the source explains.
Recently, the 41-year-old singer was spotted looking disheveled in Puerto Rico with an assistant, while the 29-year-old actor was seen alone in Los Angeles. Neither of them was wearing their wedding rings. Although a representative for Asghari claims there's no trouble between the couple, insiders suggest the denial is merely damage control.
"The plan right now is for Sam to stay at a separate house for a while and give Britney space," shares a source. "They'll stay in contact and put on a united front — possibly even step out together from time to time. But for the most part, they'll just go their own way — then reassess things down the line after a good long break."
Asghari is said to be frustrated with Spears' provocative social media posts and her public outbursts about her estranged family. The singer's conservatorship, which lasted 13 years and was overseen by her father, Jamie, ended in November 2021. She married Asghari six months later.
Spears reportedly had a public meltdown at a Los Angeles restaurant in January, which led to Asghari storming out. An intervention by loved ones to address her behavior was met with resistance.
The insider explains, "Britney can be very harsh on Sam. She's forever telling him how he'd be nothing without her — and making him jump through hoops 24/7 like he's some type of assistant."
Asghari is reportedly open to marriage counseling but acknowledges the possibility of a "full-scale divorce." The source concludes, "It's a sad scenario, but ultimately something had to give here — and the consensus is Britney's only really got herself to blame."
