The 2024 Grammy Awards may be several months away, but speculation is already mounting about potential nominees for the Best Alternative Album category. With the eligibility deadline in September 2023, several prominent artists have released successful albums that could put them in the running for the coveted award.
Gold Derby suggests that several musicians with recent releases could be strong contenders, while others have until September 2023 to release albums to qualify for nomination.
The competition for the Best Alternative Album category is shaping up to be intense, with well-known artists like Lana Del Rey and Caroline Polachek vying for the prize.
Potential Grammy Nominees for Best Alternative Album Lana Del Rey's "Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd" and Melanie Martinez's "Portals" are among the possible nominees for the category. Although "Portals" has achieved greater first-week sales than Del Rey's album, it may be classified as pop rather than alternative, which could influence its chances for a nomination.
Despite this, Del Rey shouldn't become complacent, as Caroline Polachek's "Desire, I Want to Turn Into You" poses a formidable challenge. Though Polachek has never been nominated for a Grammy Award, her latest album has garnered glowing reviews from critics.
Debuting at number four on the Billboard 200, Polachek's album boasts the highest first-week sales figures among the three albums mentioned.
Grammys Extend Eligibility Deadline for 2024 Ceremony The Recording Academy has announced an extension to the eligibility period for the 2024 Grammy Awards, pushing the deadline back to September 15, two weeks later than the original cutoff of August 31.
Harvey Mason Jr., the Academy's CEO, explained the decision, saying, "After listening to concerns from some members of the music community, we have decided to amend the end date of the previously-announced eligibility period" (via Variety).
In addition to the revised eligibility period, which runs from October 1, 2022, to September 15, 2023, there are other crucial dates to note for the 66th Grammy Awards. Media registration will take place from July 10, 2023, to August 24, 2023, while the online entry process is scheduled for July 17, 2023, through August 31, 2023.
