Despite their silence on attending King Charles' coronation, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may still choose to appear at the event, according to a royal expert.
A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently informed the BBC that "there was no update" on whether the couple would travel from California to London for the May 6th coronation at Westminster Abbey.
Christopher Andersen, a journalist and author of "The King: The Life of Charles III," commented on the couple's silence, stating to Fox News Digital that "it's not too late for Harry to put on his big boy pants and go." He emphasized the importance of the event in his father's life.
Andersen suggested that if Prince Harry attends the ceremony, he would likely want Meghan by his side. He explained that attending alone might imply Harry has chosen his family over his wife, while the Sussexes want to emphasize their unbreakable bond.
Andersen acknowledged the complicated situation, noting the intransigence on both sides. He said that King Charles and Prince William have shown little interest in repairing their relationship with Harry and Meghan recently, and the Sussexes have responded similarly. However, he believes that Harry and Meghan may decide at the last minute to attend, demonstrating that they are the "bigger" people in the dispute.
If the couple chooses to attend, Andersen predicts they will need to "stiff-upper-lip it," as they will likely receive a cold reception from the royals during the coronation.
On March 5, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed that Prince Harry received an email from King Charles' office about the ceremony. They told The Sunday Times that an immediate decision on their attendance would not be disclosed.
Tensions between the Sussexes and the royal family are believed to have escalated following the release of the couple's Netflix docuseries "Harry & Meghan" and Prince Harry's memoir "Spare." The memoir includes allegations that Prince William attacked Harry during an argument about Meghan and that Kate Middleton refused to lend Meghan her lip gloss.
