Brendan Fraser won the Best Actor award at the 95th Academy Awards.
Entertainment Tonight said this marks the 54-year-old actor's first Oscar win in his acting career.
Fraser received the honor at the awards show, which took place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday. He emerged victorious following his performance in "The Whale," where he plays the role of Charlie, a 600-pound reclusive English teacher who tries to reconcile with his teenage daughter.
In its report published Sunday, ET noted that the "Mummy" star was visibly beside himself as he delivered his speech upon accepting the award on stage.
Brendan Fraser began his speech by saying, "So this is what the multiverse looks like," before going on to express his gratitude.
The "Inkheart" actor said thanks to "the Academy for this honor and to our studio, A24, for making such a bold film." He also thanked the director and screenwriter of "The Whale," Darren Aronofsky, "for throwing me a creative lifeline and hauling me aboard the ship" of the material.
Fraser continued expressing his gratitude, thanking his fellow nominees in the Best Actor category. He told them that they laid their "whale-sized hearts bare so that we could see inside your souls like no one else could do," before saying, "It is my honor to be named alongside you in this category."
People noted in a similar report, covering Brendan Fraser's Oscars win, that he nabbed the award, beating out Austin Butler, Colin Farrell, Paul Mescal, and Bill Nighy, for their performances in "Elvis," "The Banshees of Inisherin," "Aftersun," and "Living," respectively.
Elsewhere in the speech, the "Bedazzled" actor reflected on his career, recalling that he entered the industry 30 years ago. He shared, however, that things "didn't come easily" to him, before saying, "...but there was a facility that I didn't appreciate at the time, until it stopped."
Fraser continued, "And I just want to say thank you for this acknowledgement. Because it couldn't be done without my cast."
In the latter part of his acceptance speech, the "George of the Jungle" actor also said thanks to the people in his inner circle, including his sons and his girlfriend, whom he referred to as his "best first mate."
He concluded, "Thank you again, each one and all. I'm so grateful to you."
Brendan Fraser’s latest feat at this year’s Oscars was not the first one he nabbed for his performance in “The Whale.”
The actor won the Best Actor honors at the Critics Choice Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards earlier this year. He also received nominations for the same category at the Golden Globe Awards and BAFTA Awards.
