Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially received an invitation to King Charles III’s coronation.
A spokesperson for the former working royals spoke to Entertainment Tonight and confirmed the matter, saying, “The Duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation.”
The rep continues, however, that they will not disclose the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision on the matter yet, telling the outlet, “An immediate decision on whether the Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time.”
Meanwhile, a similar report from People, which received the same statement from the pair’s spokesperson, said Buckingham Palace had no comment on the matter.
But, it recalled that a source reportedly close to the royal-born Prince and the former actress told them last month that the palace had yet to extend an invitation to the couple.
At the time, the same source also shared with the magazine that there had been no movement toward reconciliation between King Charles III and the Sussexes.
Even so, a palace insider told the outlet, which published the claims earlier in February, that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would be invited to the King’s coronation, which will occur on May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London.
The publication also learned from a source reportedly close to the royal household at the time that the British Monarch wanted the situation to “calm down” in time for the historic event.
As claimed, the event is “such a momentous occasion” for the King, “and he would want his son to be at the coronation to witness it,” with the insider adding, “He would like to have Harry back in the family.”
The same source later noted in the exchange with the magazine that “if they don’t sort it out, it will always be part of the King’s reign and how he has left his family disjointed,” before saying, “He has had a reputation as a distant parent, and it would be awful for him for that to continue.”
The latest developments in the upcoming coronation of King Charles III, particularly Meghan Markle and Prince Harry officially receiving an invitation, come days after news broke that the monarch has evicted the former working royals from their residence in the U.K., Frogmore Cottage.
Reps for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed to Page Six that the King asked the pair to “vacate” the property, saying, “We can confirm the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage.”
Reportedly, King Charles III started the eviction process following the release of his youngest son’s memoir, “Spare,” which hit shelves earlier in January.
